[OOC] [Aather] Memory 1: Shawarma [Avengers, post-movie scene]

(Normally I'd include a script transcription, but I think this one speaks for itself.)

Despite how short this memory is, there's actually quite a bit Cap's going to get out of it. (This is why I love getting tiny/trivial memories for first memories - they're way more fun now than they are later.) It's pretty much a perfect choice for giving him a preview of the important themes of his memories without ... actually giving him any details whatsoever.

Here's Cap's impression of the scene:

  • He's at a restaurant he doesn't recognize, eating food he's never had before, with people he knows but doesn't remember.

  • Said people aren't strangers, but they sure do dress strangely. (So despite Tony being in modern clothes, Cap won't twig on to the fact that he's in a different time period here.) He's also wearing something weird, but since he's not really looking down at himself all he can tell is that he's got thick gloves on.

  • Everyone at the table is amazingly freakin' powerful. Even Banner, the only one who's not overtly muscular, is wayyyy stronger than pre-serum Cap. What the hell is he doing with these people?

  • Though maybe he doesn't actually know them that well. There's a weird tension in the air - some mix of feeling relief and being very, very awkward. He respects these people, but they sure don't have anything to talk about.

  • This restaurant is totally trashed. And Cap can see just enough of the outside to know that the city in general is trashed too. (Leading him to believe he's somewhere in Europe, somehow.)

This is the first of many memories in which Cap is a super soldier. Unlike many of the others, however, this one doesn't really make that fact clear; his only hints are vague and subconscious, so he's not really going to pick up on them. Yet. There are a couple clues, though, which someone else miiiight see if he happens to share the memory:

  • Leaning over the table to eat (he's too small to do that comfortably right now)

  • Generally being at the same eye level as everyone else, despite how tall and muscular they are. Less noticeable since they're all seated.

  • Larger, more powerful hands (which are pretty hard to notice through his gloves).

  • Having a larger serving in front of him than he'd normally eat. (This one he might pick up on, actually.)

So at this point, Cap's physical discomfort from things not matching up is at about a 1/10 - he's feeling a bit unsettled for reasons he really can't articulate, or even feel past a vague subconscious level. Also, despite the fact that this is a modern memory, Cap has noooo idea that this ain't his time. The clothes are weird, sure, but the rubble hides anything that might otherwise clue him in to the different time periods. He's a lot more likely to believe he's somewhere in Europe that got hit by the war.
